The election notification for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana unit president was issued on Sunday, with the process set to take place at the party’s State headquarters in Nampally.
Nominations will be accepted between 2 pm and 4 pm on Monday, with withdrawals permitted between 4 pm and 5 pm on the same day. The notification was issued by former MLA Y Laxminarayana. union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje has been appointed as the Central Election Returning Officer.
The party’s current State president, union Minister G Kishan Reddy, was appointed ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, replacing former chief Bandi Sanjay. With his elevation to the union
Cabinet, a leadership reshuffle has been on the cards for several months, prompting a competitive race for the top position in the State unit.
Several prominent leaders are in contention for the post, including Nizamabad MP D Arvind, former MLC N Ramachandra Rao, Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender, and Mahabubnagar MP DK Aruna. Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh has also expressed interest in the role.
Party sources indicated that with the current State chief representing an upper caste, the leadership is likely to favour a Backward Class (BC) leader this time, in a bid to balance representation. A clearer picture is expected to emerge on Monday following the completion of nominations and any possible withdrawals.
