The drunk auto driver who fled after hitting a traffic constable has been arrested by Banjara Hills police.
The police crime team tracked the accused auto driver through his passenger’s contact number, who had used Paytm to purchase cigarettes. Banjara Hills traffic police were conducting anti-drunk driving checks at study circle on Banjara Hills Road No. 14 on May 21 night when the accused hit traffic constable Shankar while trying to avoid him, in which Shankar’s right leg was fractured, police said.
“After checking multiple CCTV footage, the driver was cited dropping two
passengers at Zaheeranagar intersection after hitting Shankar.
Later, he used interior streets to avoid CCTV cameras,” a police officer disclosed. However, we tracked him down through one of the passengers, who purchased cigarettes using Paytm.
Our team collected the passenger’s number from the pan shop and tracked the driver’s mobile number linked to his Rapido auto registration and arrested him at Narayanguda junction using GPS.
The accused has been identified as P. Kishan, a resident of Kolukulapalli village near the Mall in Nalgonda district, police said.
