Telangana Minister for Minority Welfare Mohammad Azharuddin on Monday called his nomination as MLC a "slap" for the BRS, rebutting the opposition party's past allegation that he was made a minister only to secure Muslim votes in last year's Jubilee Hills byelection.

He asserted that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is undertaking many programmes for the development of minorities.

Speaking to reporters after taking oath as an MLC on Monday at

the Legislative Council premises, the former cricketer said he had confidence in the leadership of CM Revanth Reddy. Azharuddin thanked AICC leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Revanth Reddy, and Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla for the opportunity.

Observing that the Chief Minister has been taking a slew of measures for the welfare of minorities, he said he would like to work for them and other sections of society as a minister.
