The Telangana Food Safety Department officials conducted a two-phase special drive on ghee across Telangana, including an intensive drive in the Hyderabad CURE region with Hyderabad Police on July 14 and 15.

During recent inspections in districts and Hyderabad, the food safety officers found instances where some licensed and unregulated establishments were suspected of selling ghee adulterated with vegetable fats like palm

oil, vanaspati, coconut oil etc while the FSS Regulations suggests that ghee must contain at least 99.5 per cent milk fat and not more than 0.5 per cent moisture.

In districts, 65 establishments were inspected and 91 ghee and cream samples were collected for analysis apart from issuing notices to five establishments. In Hyderabad CURE region, 14 establishments were inspected and 15 ghee and cream samples were collected for analysis.
