The Congress government was left red faced over the land allocated for a Muslim graveyard at Shaikpet when the Army authorities descended on the spot and prevented Muslims from going ahead with plans.

The State government through an order had allocated 2500 square yards of land at “Ghairabad Masjid” Shaikpet for a burial ground. The residents of Jubilee Hills constituency for years have been demanding land for a graveyard and now with elections scheduled in Jubilee Hills constituency, it has become an election issue.

Apparently keeping in mind the Jubilee Hills byelections, the State government through TS Wakf Board allocated 2500 square

yards of land at Shaikpet.

Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TEMRIS), chairman Faheem Qureshi and AIMIM Karwan MLA, Kauser Mohiuddin, visited the land along with local leaders two days ago.

The burial ground was to be used for burial of Muslim dead bodies belonging to Borabanda, Yousufguda, Erragadda, Rahmathnagar, Shaikpet etc, all located within Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.

On Sunday, a team of army officials came to the spot and stopped activity at the land. The Army authorities argued that the land belongs to the defense and no one can do any work until the issue is resolved.
