Amid the lockdown imposed to contain the second wave of Covid pandemic, the numbers of free meals being served through Annapurna canteens are increasing with every passing day. On Thursday 59,010 meals were served compared to 57,290 on Wednesday and 51,670 on Tuesday. 

On Thursday, 17,280 meals were served at 150 permanent Annapurna canteens while 15,180 meals were served at temporary Annapurna



centers and 26,550 packed meals were sent to the needy. 

The free meals are a boon especially for daily wage workers, hawkers and people living in shelter homes. The canteen, which originally serves hot and hygienic meals at Rs 5, was decided to be made free based on instructions from Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao.
