For the second year in a row, the three-day International Kite and Sweet Festival in the city has been halted amidst the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases. The event was set to take place between January 14 and 16 at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

The action came in view of the State government’s orders on rallies, public meetings and mass gatherings of all types, including religious, political, and cultural.

Kite flying is a

tradition during the Sankranti festival and since 2016, the Tourism Department has been organising the kite festival by inviting national and international kite flyers from across the world. Two years later, a sweet festival was added to popularise traditional sweets prepared by people from different States who have made Hyderabad their home.

Due to Covid-19, the All India Industrial Exhibition Society, commonly known as Numaish, also has been suspended indefinitely.
