The ongoing heatwave has become a double-edged sword for the general public in Telangana, especially for those living in urban centres like Hyderabad and Warangal.

For the past few days, people have not only been dealing with soaring daytime temperatures, but are also facing warmer nights, with no sign of relief even after the sun goes down.

While maximum daytime temperatures have consistently hovered around 40 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad, night-time temperatures, which are expected to provide much-needed respite, are hovering at least 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal.

As a result of warmer nights, individuals who have endured maximum temperatures of 41 to 44 degrees Celsius are not getting the necessary cool-down period at night. When night-time temperatures remain elevated, recovery from high daytime temperatures is cut short, trapping vulnerable individuals in a state of continuous 24-hour heat exhaustion.

According to

India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad weather data, Hyderabad?s minimum temperature has remained at 28.8 degrees Celsius, which is 2 degrees Celsius above the seasonal normal.

The warmer nights phenomenon is being witnessed across key urban centres of Telangana, including Warangal, where the night-time temperature has settled at around 2.1 degrees Celsius above normal.

Over the next two to three days, the situation could become even tougher in Warangal, as maximum daytime temperatures are projected to hover around 44 degrees Celsius, while night-time temperatures are expected to offer no relief and range between 31 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius.

According to the Telangana State Heatwave Action Plan 2026, warmer nights are recognised as a critical factor that severely compounds the State?s extreme summer conditions. Elevated minimum temperatures significantly increase biological heat stress among individuals, the heatwave action plan stated.
