Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar on Friday said the intensive anti-mosquito drive would continue till December.

So far, there 2,400 dengue positive cases across the State and 845 dengue cases in Hyderabad were reported during this monsoon, the Commissioner said.

As part of its fight to control mosquito breeding, the GHMC will further intensify and continue anti-larval measures in all 410 high risk regions in Hyderabad till this year-end.

A foolproof system of information sharing on the number of suspected dengue cases that are reported from private hospitals in Hyderabad is also in place, the Commissioner said.

So far, the GHMC sanitation and entomology wings have taken up anti-larval measures at 86,000 households across Hyderabad.

“We are doing our best to ensure anti-larval measures are taken up extensively on the premises of all Government schools. We have dedicated two days in a week to take up fogging in high risk zones that were identified for dengue and malaria,” Lokesh Kumar said.

GHMC acquired 1,040 machines to take up fogging and other anti-larval measures in the city.

“Our entomology wing is also looking at the entire life-cycle of mosquitoes in Hyderabad. We are trying to identify when or what time of the day the mosquitoes are active so that our response could be further sharpened,” the Commissioner said, adding that the intensity of viral fevers in the city was expected to come down soon.

On the ongoing projects taken up by GHMC across Hyderabad, Lokesh Kumar said that the Corporation was in the process of consolidating its funds. “Every month, we need close to Rs. 147 crore for these projects but right now we have access to only Rs. 110 crore. Our efforts are on to generate more revenue from various avenues,” he added.
