Additional Director-General of Police Jitender here on Tuesday said there was no influence of Maoists on the voters in the State on the eve of the April 11 Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to mediapersons, the Additional Director-General said apart from some 55,000 police personnel drafted for the election duties in the State, they have requisitioned additional forces from the neighbouring States like Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand and deployed them at inter-State borders. He also clarified that only the CRPF personnel would be guarding the strong rooms where EVMs are kept.

Jithender said they have pressed 410 flying squad teams into election duties to ensure fair and peaceful polling. He also said the police have seized a cash of Rs 39.89 crore and liquor bottles worth Rs 1.01 crore. Stating that 423 cases were registered in connection with violation of election code in the State, the Additional Director-General said they have issued 4,000 arrest warrants for wanted offenders. He also said the source of money that was seized during the police checking would be probed in consultation with the Income Tax department. He also said elaborate arrangements were made for smooth conduct of elections on April 11. “We are taking all possible steps to conduct polling in politically sensitive Nizamabad Parliamentary constituency,” Jitender added.
