The three municipal corporations in Hyderabad and its suburbs decided to distribute as many as four lakh clay Ganesh idols at free of cost to worship during the 11-day Vinayaka Chathurti festival on September 14.
While the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will distribute two lakh idols, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) will distribute two lakh idols.
Of the four
lakh idols each ranging between eight inches, one foot and 1.5 feet height, the Pollution Control Board (PCB) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will supply one lakh idols to GHMC and 50,000 each idols to MMC and CMC.
The three corporations are making elaborate arrangements for the immersion of idols at 25 water bodies in Hyderabad and its suburbs. While large idols would be immersed in lakes, small idols in baby ponds, officials said.
