The immensely popular Basti Dawakhana network in the city is getting even bigger.

Strengthening the healthcare infrastructure for economically weak sections, the State government will make operational 32 Basti Dawakhanas on Friday. Another 92 Dawakhanas are in various stages of being made operational.

These are apart from the 226 Basti Dawakhanas that are already being used by people, with the government planning to operate a total of 350 such facilities within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

Among the 92 planned ones, seven are under construction while locations for 35 have been identified. The remaining 50 are in the planning stage.

As for the 32 being opened on Friday, the clinics will work from 9 am to 5 pm on all days except Sunday.

GHMC officials said the number of people availing free healthcare services at each of these Dawakhanas on a daily basis ranged from 70 to 150, depending on the season and location.

OPD consultation, tele-consultation, Basic Lab Diagnosis, treatment of simple illness and immunisation are the services offered in these clinics. Other facilities offered include antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, screening for Anemia, BP and Blood Sugar. Cancer awareness and other campaigns are also held at these places.

“Basthi Dawakhanas in the GHMC limits were established to meet the healthcare needs of the urban population with the focus on urban poor. These clinics have ensured essential primary health care services for free,” the GHMC said in a press release.
