Twenty goats died of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP), a respiratory disease at Elegaon village in Bhainsa mandal in a single day on Thursday, triggering panic among the shepherd community.

Datturam, a shepherd claimed that his goats fell sick due to the respiratory disease, resulting in a loss of around Rs 2 lakh. He urged the officials to extend compensation to him



considering his weak financial background. Owners of the goats and sheep expressed concern over the spread of the disease. They requested the officials to take preventive steps.

Officials of the animal husbandry department said that no drugs were available to cure the disease among the goats. They said that steps would be taken to control it. They wanted the farmers not to panic.
