Prime suspect in rape of minor girl arrested

Hyderabad: The police on Saturday arrested the prime suspect in the rape of a minor girl in Old Bowenpally. While Karthal Raju, 23, a car driver and resident of RR Nagar in Old Bowenpally, was arrested, the second suspect, Sai Kiran, a friend of Raju, is absconding.

According to the police, the suspect and the 17-year-old victim were in a relationship for the last three months. Raju allegedly exploited her sexually after promising to marry her, and also threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed it to anyone. He also allowed his friend Kiran, a driver to rape her. The duo raped the victim multiple times.

also threatened her that he will reveal about her relationship with Raju to her family and the public. The victim, who was scared, was forced to go with Kiran to an isolated place on the Dairy Farm road where he raped her.” ACP, Begumpet Division, S.Ranga Rao said.

Following a complaint from the victim’s mother, a case under relevant sections of the IPC, POCSO Act and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act was booked. The police recovered the wallet and driving license of Kiran from the crime scene. During interrogation, Raju confessed to the crime. He was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody. A manhunt is on to nab Kiran.
