Hyderabad: All five members of Bhartiya Janata Party were suspended from the Telangana State Legislative Assembly for this week when they stalled the proceedings of the House opposing proposed 12% quota for Muslims in jobs and education.

BJP MLAs – Dr. K. Lakshman, G. Kishan Reddy, Chintala Ramchander Reddy, NVSS Prabhakar and Raja Singh entered the Assembly on Friday wearing black scarves. As soon the House met, they started raising slogans against the government opposing 12% Muslim quota.

The BJP members also protested against the arrest of hundreds of BJP workers who were coming to Hyderabad to participate in Chalo Assembly rally.

Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary tried to in vain to convince BJP members to

resume their seats to begin Question Hour. However, the BJP legislators continued their protest.

Accusing the BJP of disrupting the House, Legislative Affairs Minister T. Harish Rao moved the motion to suspend BJP MLAs from the House for this week (two days).

Strongly objecting to the suspension of BJP members, Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy alleged that the House was not being run in a democratic manner.

He said that the government should provide an opportunity to the members to express their views. However, he said the opposition members were being suspension even for minor protests.

As a mark of protest, Jana Reddy said that the Congress party was staging a boycott.
