The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has made arrangements to launch its ‘Green Water’ tanker service on November 1 to supply treated sewage water for construction, industrial, gardening and other non-potable uses.

In the first phase, the HMWSSB has arranged 21 tankers to source treated water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) across the city. The service will later be expanded to all divisions. Each tanker will be painted green, carry prescribed branding and prominently display the warning: ‘STP Treated Water – Not for Drinking.’

The HMWSSB has listed five

tankers from Attapur, three from Amberpet, two each from Mir Alam, Nagole, Mulkatva Cheruvu, Nalla Cheruvu, Hussain Sagar and Saroornagar, and one each from Kokapet, Gopanpally and Lingamkunta.

Officials said about 100 private water tankers had registered with the board for the initiative. Supplies through these tankers will be expanded in phases.

Special officers have been appointed at each STP to supervise filling points, tanker allocation, water quality and supply operations. Officials said the treated water was intended for construction, park maintenance, gardening and other non-potable requirements.
