Indian women have completed a historic win over England in the one-off Test at the iconic Lord's. The Women in Blue defeated the English side by 270 runs in the first-ever Test match at the Home of Cricket as Yastika Bhatia, Kranti Gaud and Sneh Rana put up stellar performances.
Krant led the show with the ball in the first innings as she took five wickets, becoming the first women's player to have taken a five-wicket haul at the iconic Lord's. After India piled up 285 batting first, Kranti jolted the home side with 5/37 in her 17 overs to put her name on the Lord's honours board. Her spell helped India bowl the hosts out for just 170 as the visitors took a big 115-run lead.
The Women in Blue were already on top of the English side after the first innings, and it was Yastika Bhatia who probably put the game to bed with a century in the second innings. The wicketkeeper batter, who battled injuries in recent times, made 113 from 158 balls and helped the Indian side put 341/7d on the board, handing the hosts a daunting target of 457 in the second essay.
It was a stellar performance by the Indian
bowlers. While the batters put up a big score in the second innings, the bowlers set things up for the win. They gave the visitors a sizeable lead in the first innings after the batters put up a middling total of 285. Kranti took the most out of the conditions as she plotted England's collapse in the first innings. The speedster removed four of the top five batters, including that of the outgoing Tammy Beaumont, who retired from international cricket after this game.
Sneh Rana took the baton from Kranti in the second innings as she took four wickets in the defence. She spun a web to take 4/42 in her 19.5 overs, including the final scalp of the match in Sophie Ecclestone, who also took a fifer in the second innings. Kranti took two more wickets in the second innings, while Deepti Sharma and Sayali Satghare scalped a brace each in India's historic win.
This is India's ninth win in women's Test matches, which remains the third-most behind Australia's 24 and England's 21 victories. This was India's fourth Test win against England in 14 matches. 11 games have been drawn, while India lost only one game to the English side.
