The Indian women’s hockey team scripted history at the Asian Games 2026. Taking on China in the gold medal match, the side registered a 1-0 victory in the clash to win the gold medal. It is worth noting that the Indian women’s hockey team won the gold medal at the Asian Games after a hiatus of 44 years as India added yet another gold to their ranks.

The side last managed to win the gold at the very first edition of the event back in 1982, when the games were held in Delhi. It is also interesting to note that with the gold medal victory, the Indian women’s hockey team has secured their quota for the LA28 Olympics as well, and after becoming Asia’s best side, the

side will strive to become the world’s best next.

In the last edition of the Asian Games, the Indian women’s side failed to reach the Paris Olympics 2024 after they lost to China in the semi-final. Coming full circle, the side’s redemption arc has been completed as they defeat the very opponents that knocked them out last time around.

Notably, India’s Lalremsiami Hmarzot scored the sole goal of the clash. The goal came in the first quarter of the game, and then it was down to the side’s incredible defence throughout the game that helped India secure the medal as the side kept out China’s attack for the rest of the three quarters.
