South Africa all-rounder Marizanne Kapp has been ruled out of the Proteas squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The star cricketer had cut short her participation during the tour of England due to family reasons.

The 32-year-old returned home before the first T20I of the three-match series on July 21 after her brother-in-law suffered serious injuries in an accident which left him in intensive care, ESPNcricinfo reported.

After her departure, Cricket South Africa (CSA) stated that her availability for the CWG, starting on July 28 in Birmingham, was yet to be confirmed. South Africa head coach Hilton Moreeng has confirmed that Kapp would not be returning to England for the

tournament.

The absence of Kapp adds to South Africa's miseries as Proteas' top-order Lizelle Lee retired from international cricket amid a spat over granting of an NOC for her to play in the Hundred.

Adding to South Africa's concerns, skipper Sune Luus missed the third T20I due to an illness. However, head coach Moreeng said that Luus would be fit when South Africa begin their Commonwealth Games campaign.

"It's a precaution from medical to make sure they are 100 per cent for that game and ready for the first game," Moreeng said. "Yes, they'll be 100 per cent. She's recovering very well, Sune, and she definitely will be able to bowl, yes. Regarding Marizanne, she will be out of the Commonwealth [Games]."
