Sydney: In Australian Open Badminton, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and PV Sindhu yesterday advanced to the second round of the tournament. Sixth seed Prannoy beat Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu  21-18, 16-21, 21-15 in a hard-fought game in the first round. Earlier Kidambi Srikanth beat Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto 21-18, 21-7 to move into Round Two.

Meanwhile,



Mithun Manjunath registered a sensational victory, beating former World Champion Loh Kean Yew 21-19, 21-19 in Round of 32. However, Lakshya Sen suffered an injury and retired from the first-round contest against Kiran George. In the women's event, PV Sindhu won her first-round match by defeating compatriot Ashmita Chaliha by 21-18, 21-13.
