Mumbai: After a victory in the T-20s, South Africa defeated India by 214 runs in the fifth and final one dayer at Mumbai last night to register the first ever bilateral ODI series win on Indian soil. Opting to bat at the Wankhede Stadium, the visitors posted 438 for 4 courtesy centuries by Faf Du Plessis, skipper AB DeVilliers and Quinton de Kock.

Du Plessis was retired hurt at 133, while DeVilliers made a 61-ball 119 comprising of 3 fours and 11 sixes. De Kock made 109. Hashim Amla, who made 23, broke Virat Kohli's record and became the fastest player to reach 6,000 ODI runs.

In reply, India were bundled out for 224 in the 36th over, with Ajinkya Rahane top scoring with 87. The defeat was also the second biggest loss for India in ODIs in terms of runs. De Kock was adjudged man of the match, while DeVilliers was named player of the series. The first Test of the 4-match series will be played in Mohali from the 5th of next month.
