Shubman Gill reclaims No.1 ODI ranking despite ODI series defeat to England

India captain Shubman Gill has reclaimed the No.1 spot in the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings despite India's 2-1 series defeat to England, capping another impressive chapter in his rise as one of the world's premier white-ball batters.

The latest ICC rankings update saw Gill return to the summit after New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell relinquished top spot following the Black Caps' recent ODI series against the West Indies. Gill had first become the world's No.1 ODI batter in November 2023 after a prolific run in the format but slipped to second in January this year when Mitchell's outstanding



performances during New Zealand's successful tour of India earned him the top ranking.

Six months later, the Indian skipper has reclaimed the crown.

Gill's return to the summit was driven by a fine individual display against England. While India were unable to avoid a 2-1 series defeat, the 26-year-old emerged as his side's leading run-scorer, amassing 188 runs in three matches. He laid the foundation with a fluent 80 in the opening ODI at Edgbaston before adding two more valuable contributions, reinforcing his reputation as one of the most consistent batters in the 50-over format.
