The injuries continue to haunt the Indian openers. Even as Lokesh Rahul, who was sidelined for a shoulder injury for three months, was declared fit for the Sri Lanka tour, Team India suffered another loss and this time Tamil Nadu batsman Murali Vijay had to pull out because of pain in his right wrist. India is scheduled to play three-Test series in Lanka.

Left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan, who was in good form in the recently concluded Champions Trophy in England where India finished runners-up to Pakistan, comes as a replacement to Vijay. Dhawan was dropped from the Test series against New Zealand before making a comeback into the Indian one-day team.

According to the BCCI press release,

Vijay, who had suffered a wrist injury during Australia’s tour of India, had complained of pain in his right wrist, while playing a preparatory match. “The BCCI medical team has therefore advised that Vijay should continue his rehabilitation program.’’
