Serena to play Sharapova in highly-anticipated pre-quarterfinal match in French Open

Three-time champion Serena Williams will clash with long-time rival Maria Sharapova in the highly-anticipated pre-quarterfinal match today. 

This will be the 22nd time that Serena, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, will meet Sharapova who had won French Open in 2012 and 2014. 

Although Serena has won 19 of the 22 matches against the Russian, the match is expected to be neck and neck as the American is making a return to Grand Slam Tennis



after months out. Americans Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys and Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan have already made it to the quarterfinals.

In Men's Singles, former champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia and German second seed Alexander Zverev, are among those who have progressed to the last-8.
