June 10:

Veteran Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara has said that the tourists are glad that they are not facing the 'amazing' Kevin Pietersen in their upcoming two- Test series against England that will start at Lord's on June 12.

Pietersen, who is England's all-time leading run-scorer across all formats, was dramatically sacked from the national side following their 5-0 Ashes washout and the England and Wales Cricket Board ( ECB) has suggested that a

'distracted' and 'disinterested' former skipper was not conductive to dressing-room harmony.

However, Sangakkara, who is a world-class batsman, said that it took all types of characters to make a successful side, adding that he does not know the reasons for Pietersen's sacking but the fact remains that he is an amazing player.

Sangakkara added that he has watched Pietersen play, admired him and he is undoubtedly an out-and-out match-winner.

Sangakkara added that of course, being an opposition player, he is not disappointed that Pietersen is not around, as the Sri Lanka squad knows what damage the South African-born could have done to the visitors and the damage he has done to them before. (ANI)
