Rohit Sharma breaks Sachin Tendulkar record, second fastest to 12,000 ODI runs

Rohit Sharma has broken Sachin Tendulkar's record to become the second-fastest batter to reach 12,000 ODI runs. The India opener reached the landmark during the ongoing second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati, getting there in 282 innings, with only Virat Kohli having done it quicker.

Rohit came into the match 73 runs short of the milestone after making 32 off 35 balls in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram. He put that disappointment behind him in Guwahati, producing a far more authoritative knock and reaching 80 off 56 balls while building a huge opening partnership with India captain Shubman Gill, as India chase 406 after West Indies posted 405/7.

The landmark moved Rohit past Tendulkar's previous mark of 300 innings. Kohli remains comfortably the



fastest, reaching 12,000 ODI runs in 242 innings, while Rohit has now taken 282. Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara complete the top five on the list of batters to reach the landmark in the fewest innings.

Rohit is now only the third Indian batter to reach 12,000 ODI runs, joining Tendulkar and Kohli in an exclusive club. Kohli had himself reached another landmark in the first ODI of this series, becoming only the second batter after Tendulkar to cross 15,000 ODI runs, while scoring an unbeaten 139 against West Indies.
