Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu cruised into the second round of the women's singles event at the BWF Super 500 tournament in Sydney. The world No. 10 took just 32 minutes to beat Peru's Ines Castillo 21-13, 21-11 at Olympic Boulevard.

Sindhu will next take on fellow Indian Isharani Baruah, who defeated China's Han Qianxi 22-20, 10-21, 21-14 in her opener. It will be the first meeting between the two Indian players on the BWF tour.

The bigger headline for India came from teenage sensation Tanvi Sharma. The 17-year-old world No. 36

stunned Chinese Taipei's Chiu Pin-Chian, seeded fifth for the tournament, 21-12, 22-20 to advance to the last 16.

Tanvi, who won silver at the BWF World Junior Championships last year, has been searching for consistency this season after managing to get past the first round only twice in her previous eight tournaments. Her win over the world No. 11 marks one of the best results of her career so far.

In the second round, Tanvi will face another Indian, Malvika Bansod, who rallied from a game down to beat Thailand's Tonrug Saeheng 15-21, 21-7, 21-13.
