India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra scripted history at the Doha Diamond League. Competing for glory at the event, Chopra achieved his career best while competing in the Javelin throw event against the likes of Anderson Peters, Julian Webers, and many more accomplished stars.

On his third throw of the event, Chopra went on to breach the 90 m mark, achieving his career best while doing so. Chopra achieved a distance of 90.23 metres and stayed in the lead in the third round.

This was the first time that Chopra breached the 90M mark, and the two-time Olympic medallist looked set for a win before Julian Weber surpassed him with a throw of 91.06M.

Interestingly, Chopra has been catching all the headlines recently over his comments on the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam which took 26 innocent lives. The attack led to a big conflict between the two countries that ended after both agreed to

a ceasefire.

Chopra was at the helm of controversy when an invite for the NC Classic was sent to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem. Neeraj clarified that the invites for the event were sent before the Pahalgam attack. However, in light of the attacks and the conflict, the NC Classic was postponed as well. Ahead of the Doha Diamond League, Neeraj Chopra was asked about the pressure that comes with the presence of social media.

“Social media has given everyone with a phone and an internet connection the platform and freedom to say whatever they like and attack whomever they want,” Chopra told Al Jazeera.

“Some people take to social media to vent their pent-up frustrations. If they are facing any issues in their personal lives that can’t be aired, they take aim at people on social media. However, I try not to worry about such comments and focus on my work,” Chopra added.
