Neeraj Chopra-Arshad Nadeem face off set for 1st time after Olympics 2024

Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem are all set to face off for the first time since their duel at the Paris Olympics 2024 at the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland on August 16, the organisers confirmed on Saturday, July 12. This will be the first time Neeraj and Nadeem will go up against one another on the field after their pulsating clash at the Olympics last year. There, it was Nadeem who won the gold medal on the occassion with a stunning 92.97m throw as Neeraj took home silver.

Since then, Neeraj has been working hard and has shown great form this year, as he was able to break the 90-metre barrier and won the Paris Diamond League. The 27-year-old also finished at the top of the standings at the Neeraj Chopra Classic earlier in the month.

The fight between the reigning world champion and the Olympic gold medallist is set to be a star attraction at the Silesia Diamond League. The organisers said that this could be a chance for Neeraj to get some revenge after their battle in the Olympics last year.

Arshad Nadeem. The Indian-Pakistani battle awaiting the Polish fans will be the first opportunity for revenge after the Paris Olympics," the organisers said while announcing the participants of the prestigious DL event.

"The Pakistani’s form remains something of a mystery, as he rarely appears on the European circuit. The exception he will make on August 16th results from his desire to face Chopra."

"The latter became the 26th thrower in history to surpass 90 metres this spring. And he is certainly yearning for more."

Since the Paris Olympics, Neeraj has joined hands with Jan Zelezny in a bid to improve himself and has seen some big results go his way. Nadeem, ended his 2024 season with the Paris Olympics gold and took part in only one event this year.

The Pakistan javelin star won gold in the Asian Championships in Gumi, South Korea, on May 31 with a throw of 86.40m. The event in Silselia will also help both men in their preparations for the World Championships in Tokyo, which will take place in September.
