Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his delight as India officially won the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030. The PM tweeted out his excitement on Wednesday evening, saying that the whole country was looking forward to welcoming the world.
Gujarat's capital, Ahmedabad, has been confirmed as the host city, marking a major milestone for India in global sports, 20 years after Delhi last hosted the Games in 2010. Delegates from 74 Commonwealth member nations and territories approved India’s bid during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow.

India’s winning vision positioned Ahmedabad, or Amdavad, as a modern and culturally rich city capable of staging a memorable Centenary edition. The proposal highlighted India’s young population, sporting ambition, and strong sporting culture, promising a Games that will resonate locally while captivating audiences worldwide.
The 2030 Games are expected to feature 15 to 17 disciplines. Organisers in Ahmedabad will work closely with Commonwealth Sport and international federations to finalise a dynamic and inclusive sports program. The proposed disciplines under consideration include Archery, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball and 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball, Beach Volleyball, T20 Cricket, Cycling, Diving, Hockey, Judo, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Rugby Sevens, Shooting, Squash, Triathlon and Para Triathlon, and Wrestling. Hosts may also propose up to two new or traditional sports. The final program will be announced next year.
