In a tragic incident, a Thai footballer was killed and 12 others were injured after lightning struck during a match in Thailand. The incident occurred during the Golok Cup regional tournament at Santiphap Stadium in Thailand's Narathiwat province, according to a report.

The report said 24-year-old footballer Safwan Awae was killed in the lightning strike, while 12 others suffered burn injuries. Among those injured was 22-year-old Malaysian footballer Alif Ezzahan Zulkifli.

rushed to help Awae after he collapsed on the pitch. Emergency services arrived at the scene, administered medical treatment and transported him to a hospital. Police later confirmed that Awae died from the injuries he sustained in the lightning strike. 

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. It shows players continuing to play as rain falls before a bolt of lightning suddenly strikes the ground near them. A bright flash is followed by flames erupting from the ground and a thick plume of smoke.
