Basel: In Swiss Open badminton, Indian pair of B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa beat Denmark's Mads Vestergaard and Natasja P Anthonisen to advance to the second round of the mixed doubles qualifiers at Basel yesterday. 

The Indian mixed doubles pair won 18-21, 21-16, 21-17 in a qualification first-round match. Most of the top Indian players, including PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, and K Srikanth will start their campaign today.

The tournament will also see the participation of players like Sai Praneeth, HS Prannoy,



Parupalli Kashyap, Sameer Verma, and Aakarshi Kashyap in the singles.

Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu will play Denmark’s Hojmark Kjaersfeldt in the opening round while Nehwal will face Yaelle HOYAUX of France.

Srikanth will take on Denmark's Mads Christophersen in the men’s singles opener.

Meanwhile, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has confirmed that the Chinese badminton team reported a few positive Covid-19 cases and has withdrawn from the ongoing Swiss Open.
