India have recorded their strongest-ever medal haul at the Asian Para Games. The contingent finished with 114 medals, comprising 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze, in Aichi-Nagoya. The country sits fourth in the standings with one day remaining, but no Indian athletes are scheduled to compete on the final day.
Notably, the latest tally surpasses India's previous best of 108 medals at the preceding edition in Hangzhou. The earlier campaign had
initially yielded 111 medals, including 27 gold, 32 silver and 49 bronze, before three medals were taken away following doping cases involving Neeraj Yadav and Parveen.
Meanwhile, India's achievement in Japan comes with a substantially smaller team than the one that competed in China. The contingent comprised 168 para-athletes this time, compared with 309 in Hangzhou, making the medal count a significant improvement despite the reduction in participation.
