In Australian Open Tennis, world number one Simona Halep will lock horns with four-time winner Serena Williams in the Round-of-16 at Melbourne today. Serena, the 37-year old American is eying a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam, while the top seeded Romanian is bidding for her maiden Australian Open trophy.

Serena, who is currently seeded 16th, is a former world number one and has been victorious in eight of her nine matches with Halep. However, the Romanian has won her maiden Grand Slam since their last meeting.

Williams has reached the Wimbledon and US Open Finals since her return from maternity leave in March last year, and has risen from 183 to 16 in the world rankings.

In Men's Singles, world number one Novak Djokovic will also play his Round-of-16 match today. He will take on Russian Daniil Medvedev. Yesterday, world number three and defending champion Roger Federer was stunned by Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas who ended the Swiss star's bid for a record seventh Australian Open. Federer failed to reach the last eight in Melbourne for only the second time in 16 years as he lost to Tsitsipas, 7-6, 6-7, 5-7, 6-7. Second seed Angelique Kerber and five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova also made a shock exit yesterday.
