The road to the biggest FIFA World Cup in history is officially underway, with the full match schedule for the 2026 edition now revealed after a grand draw ceremony in Washington, D.C. The tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, marks the first time the World Cup expands to 48 teams, bringing a record number of matches and venues spread across North America.
This historic edition will kick off on 11 June 2026 at the legendary Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, where co-hosts Mexico face South Africa in the opening match. The stadium, which hosted World Cup openers in 1970 and 1986, will once again serve as the launching point for football’s biggest tournament. The United States will begin their campaign the following day in Los Angeles against Paraguay, while Canada open their journey in Toronto against the winner of UEFA Playoff A.
Defending champions Argentina start their title defence in Group J, meeting Algeria in their first match before taking on Austria and Jordan. Other early high-profile fixtures include Brazil vs. Morocco, Germany vs. Curacao, Netherlands vs. Japan, and England vs. Croatia. With matches scheduled across major cities such as New York, Houston, Miami, Vancouver, Dallas and Guadalajara, the tournament promises global-scale travel, drama and spectacle.
Across 38 days of action, teams will battle through an expanded group stage before progressing to an equally expanded knockout bracket, which now begins with a Round of 32. The tournament concludes with the big final on 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where the next world champion will be crowned.
