Polish referee Szymon Marciniak has been picked to officiate the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan in Istanbul on June 10, following his previous role as the referee for the FIFA World Cup final in December 2022.

This appointment by UEFA marks a rare achievement as Marciniak will now referee the biggest finals in both national team and European club football within the same

season. The 42-year-old received acclaim for his handling of Argentina's World Cup victory over France in a penalty shootout in Doha, Qatar.

Marciniak had previously officiated games involving both Champions League finalists during the knockout stages. He oversaw Manchester City's impressive 4-0 triumph over Real Madrid in the semi-finals and officiated Inter Milan's goalless draw against Porto in the Round of 16.
