India and New Zealand were forced to share points after the 18th match of the 2019 Cricket World Cup was washed out without a ball being bowled at Trent Bridge on Thursday. New Zealand retained the top spot in the points table with 7 points from 4 matches while India moved to No.3 with 5 points from 3 matches.

New Zealand and India remain unbeaten in their World Cup 2019 campaign so far. While New Zealand had defeated Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, India had won their first two matches against South Africa and defending champions Australia.

Rain had loomed large over Nottingham hours before the scheduled start of the match between India and New Zealand. On Thursday, overcast conditions greeted both teams, fans and officials.

The toss (scheduled at 2:30 PM IST) was delayed and there were 2 inspections thereafter. The first was held at 4 PM IST followed by another at 5 PM. The third was scheduled at 6PM but it wasn't possible as the rain came back. The umpires finally came out at 7 PM only to schedule another inspection at 7.30 PM.

This was the 4th match which was washed out in the 2019 World Cup. No other World Cup has had as many washouts.

Rain had already affected 3 matches before the India - New Zealand washout. The game between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was washed out without a ball being bowled before the South Africa vs West Indies game had to be abandoned after the Proteas lost 2 wickets.

Sri Lanka suffered another setback when their next match against Bangladesh was also washed out.

India will now head over to Manchester for a high-profile match against Pakistan on June 16 while New Zealand take on South Africa on June 19.
