Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has heaped praise on India batter Virat Kohli, calling him the best chaser in the history of cricket. Kohli is India’s leading run-scorer in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Speaking to Star Sports, Du Plessis said Kohli is the best chaser in the history of cricket. Kohli has scored 354 runs in the 2023 World Cup and sits second in the leading run-scorers list, only behind South Africa opener Quinton de Kock.

“Virat Kohli is the best chaser in cricket history. The standout qualities of Virat Kohli are his unwavering hunger and unmatched competitiveness to constantly strive for excellence in the game,” said Du Plessis.

Du Plessis went on to say that he’s never seen anyone with a stronger mindset than Kohli, insisting that he’s always striving for greatness. Kohli has now become the fourth all-time run-getter in the history of ODI World Cups

with 1384 runs, only behind Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara.

“I have never witnessed anyone with a stronger mindset than him. He is always on, always striving for greatness, and that is incredibly inspiring for everyone,” Du Plessis added.

Kohli has been in imperious form in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and is India’s top-scorer in the tournament. He missed out on his 49th ODI century in Dharamshala, falling on 95 against New Zealand.

The former India skipper has scored 354 runs in five matches in the 2023 World Cup, including a brilliant century against Bangladesh in Pune. Meanwhile, India is leading the World Cup 2023 points table having won all its five matches in the tournament.

The Men in Blue will be looking to cement their spot in the race for the semi-finals when they take on defending champions England in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.
