Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has been elected as the new president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Sunday, December 7. Santosh Menon and Sujith Somasunder were elected secretary and Vice-President, respectively. Prasad saw off competition from KN Shanth Kumar to win the elections and take up the new role.
The former pacer, who represented India in 33 Tests and 196 ODIs, has served as the vice-president of the association in the past. Prasad won the election against Shanth Kumar 749-558 as a total of 1307 members voted on Sunday. Somasunder won the election to the post of vice-president ahead of D. Vinod Shivappa with a tally of 719-588.
Somasunder had stepped down from the post of the post of Education Head at the BCCI Centre
of Excellence to compete in the elections. BN Madhukar will act as the new treasurer of the KSCA after he won the election 736-571 ahead of MS Vinay. Santosh Menon saw off the challenge from ES Jairam to be elected as the new secretary in a tight race which ended 675-632 in the favour of the experienced administrator.
The Prasad-led panel had got the back of his former India and Karnataka teammates, Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble, and have now secured the key four posts in the association. Former India women’s cricketer Kalpana Venkatachar (764 votes) and ex-Karnataka wicketkeeper-batter Avinash Vaidya (691), both contesting from Prasad’s panel, secured their spots as representatives from the Bangalore Zone, along with Aashish Amarlall, who received 703 votes.
