Afghanistan’s cricketers have stepped forward with a heartfelt gesture to aid victims of the recent earthquake in Kunar province. The national team pledged to donate their entire match fees from the T20I against the United Arab Emirates on Monday, along with additional personal contributions, to support families struck by the tragedy.

Players competing in the Regional List A Tournament in Khost also committed to pooling donations, which will be dispatched immediately to the affected region.

The 6.0-magnitude quake, recorded late on September 1, shook eastern Afghanistan, leaving more than 800 people dead and injuring over 2,800 across Kunar and neighboring provinces. Survivors are struggling amid destroyed homes and scarce relief supplies.

“AfghanAtalan Show Solidarity with Kunar Earthquake Victims!” a statement from Afghanistan cricket read.

“Afghan Atalan have committed all their match fees from tonight's game against the UAE, as well as additional donations, to assist the families affected by

the recent earthquake in Kunar province.”

“Additionally, players involved in the ongoing Regional List A Tournament in Khost province will also gather their donations tomorrow. These contributions will be immediately sent to support the affected families in Kunar during this difficult time,” the statement added.

Before the tri-nation clash on Sunday, players from Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates observed a minute’s silence to honor the victims of the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan. Adding to the show of solidarity, the Chennai Super Kings extended their heartfelt support to the people of Afghanistan.

“To our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan, we're heartbroken by the earthquake that struck your land. In this darkest hour, may strength and hope lift you again,” wrote CSK on their social media account.

As for Afghanistan, after completing their fixtures in the ongoing tri-series, the team will remain in the UAE to prepare for the Asia Cup 2025, which is set to begin on September 9.
