The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Friday, November 11, announced the nominees for the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup on Australian soil.

The nine nominees are Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Wanindu Hasaranga, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza and Alex Hales.

Kohli and Suryakumar are among the leading run-scorers in the tournament, but despite their best efforts, India failed to qualify for the final. In the semi-final, the Men in Blue faced a 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England at the Adelaide Oval.

Hales got the award for the Player of the Match after he scored 86 runs in a 170-run

partnership with Buttler. The Three Lions chased down the target of 169 with 24 balls to spare.

Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza has won seven Player of the Match awards in T20Is this year, showing how big a force he has been of late. Three of them came in the World Cup, although Zimbabwe failed to progress beyond the Super 12.

Hasaranga was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka in the tournament after he finished with 15 wickets from eight matches at an economy rate of 6.41.

England pacer Sam Curran became the first pacer from his country to pick up a five-wicket haul in T20Is. The left-armer accomplished the feat in the match against Mohammad Nabi’s Afghanistan.
