South Africa have won the Second Cricket Test against India by 135 runs and with that, also clinched three-match series with unassailable 2-0 lead. On the fifth and final day yesterday, chasing a target of 287 runs for a win, the Indians folded for only 151 in their second innings.
Resuming the day at their overnight score of 35 for three wickets, Indian batsmen capitulated in the face of South Africa's menacing pace attack. Rohit Sharma's 47 was the lone noteworthy contribution in the
innings.
For the hosts, debutant pace bowler Lungi Ngidi took six wickets for a mere 39 runs in 12.2 overs. Ngidi became the sixth Proteas' pacer to pick a five-wicket haul in his debut Test after Lance Klusener, Charles Langeveldt, Vernon Philander, Merchant de Lange and Kyle Abbott. Ngidi finished with a match haul of seven wickets.
The defeat ended a Nine-Series unbeaten run for Virat Kohli's world No.1 side. The debacle is also Kohli's first as full-time captain.
