South Africa captain Temba Bavuma to tour India for A series before November Tests

South Africa’s Test captain, Temba Bavuma, has been included in the South Africa A squad for the forthcoming tour of India, marking his return to competitive cricket after recovering from a calf injury that forced him out of the Pakistan Test series.

Bavuma had sustained the injury during South Africa’s white-ball tour of England in September 2025, which led to his absence from the two-match Test series against Pakistan earlier this month. In his absence, Aiden Markram captained the side, while Bavuma was projected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

This stint with the A squad is designed to help Bavuma regain full match fitness and form ahead of South Africa’s senior tour of India, which will include two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is from November 14 to December 19. His involvement is seen as a strategic step to ensure he is fully prepared for the senior team’s demanding schedule.

The South Africa A tour of India will feature two four-day games and a three-match



one-day series. Bavuma is slated to play in the second four-day match at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, scheduled from November 6 to 9.

Bavuma’s comeback is eagerly awaited, given his role as a key figure in South African cricket. Both as a top-order batter and a leader, his experience and guidance will be crucial as the Proteas aim to bolster their squad ahead of a challenging series in India.
