Shakib Al Hasan is set to miss Bangladesh’s upcoming two-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The white-ball series, which will take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, was zeroed in on after Bangladesh couldn’t take part in a three-day training camp from September 12 to 14 due to heavy rain in the country.

The series is a part of Bangladesh’s preparations for the T20 World Cup to be played in Australia in October-November.

Shakib is currently in the West Indies where he is plying his trade for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2022 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

"Shakib is unavailable in UAE," BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz on Wednesday, September 21.

Nurul Hasan Sohan, who

captained the Tigers in two T20Is in Zimbabwe, is likely to lead Bangladesh in Shakib’s absence in the UAE.

Bangladesh are scheduled to leave for Dubai on Thursday, September 22 at 5:30 pm in the evening. The two T20Is are set to take place on Sunday, September 25 and 27 respectively.

In the meantime, Minhajul Abedin, the Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief selector, said that the players need to undergo a fitness test at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium before departing for the UAE.

''The fitness test will be given in two groups with the first group scheduled at 8:30 AM and the second group at 9:30 AM. This Yo-Yo test is to see where they stand fitness wise before going to UAE," Minhajul said.

Bangladesh will start their T20 World Cup campaign on Monday, October 24 against a Qualifier at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
