Rinku Singh is set to rejoin the India squad ahead of their clash against Zimbabwe, India's batting coach confirmed at a press conference in Chennai on Wednesday, February 25. He is expected to link up with the team later in the evening, ahead of the Super 8 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday.
Rinku Singh had temporarily left the team camp to attend to a family emergency. Reports suggested that his father, Khanchand Singh, was in critical condition and admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida. The left-hander had travelled to Chennai with the squad on Monday, February 23, following India's Super 8
fixture.
"Rinku, his father wasn’t well, so he went back. And I think he is coming back this evening. So, hopefully he will be back this evening," said Kotak.
Rinku has featured in all five matches for India in the tournament but has managed just 24 runs. The UP batter's return to form could not have come at a better time as India look to bounce back from their Super 8 defeat to South Africa in Ahmedabad.
However, Rinku did not bat during the team's four-hour training session in Chennai on the eve of the Zimbabwe clash, raising doubts over his place in the playing XI.
