Quinton de Kock's South African side fell miserably in the spin trap laid by Pakistan and lost the first Test match at Karachi's National Stadium by 7 wickets on Day 4. Chasing a target of 88 runs, Anrich Nortje took 2 quick wickets but Azhar Ali (31*) and Babar Azam (30) ensured that their team guns down the target without any final moment drama. South Africa have now lost 9 off their last 10 matches in Asia

After conceding a 158-run first innings lead to Pakistan, South Africa had ended Day 3 at 187/4 but the spin duo of Yasir Shah and Nauman Ali starred on Friday to bundle out the visitors for a paltry 245 runs total.

Keshav Maharaj failed to add anything to his overnight score of 2, while

captain Quinton de Kock (2) also failed for the second consecutive time on the tour. The southpaw was undone by leg-spinner Yasir Shah (4 for 79), who had removed Dean Elgar, Rassie, Van Der Dussen and Faf du Plessis on Thursday.

Nauman Ali (5 for 35) wrecked havoc and cleared up the Proteas tail. Temba Bavuma fought hard for his 40 and was the last one to depart from his side.

Openers Imran Butt (12) and Abid Ali (10) failed again but because of the low target set by South Africa, their dismissals did not bother the hosts much. Babar Azam got out when Pakistan needed just 2 more runs to win but Fawad Alam, the centurion from the 1st innings, very deservingly smashed a four to hand his team a 7 wicket win.
