Pakistan announce squad for Asia Cup 2025, Babar Azam to miss for 1st time in 8 years

Pakistan Cricket recently came forward and announced their squad for the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup 2025. The Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from 9 to 28 September, and Pakistan have been placed in group A of the tournament, alongside the likes of India, Oman, and the UAE. 

It is worth noting that Pakistan will play their first game of the tournament on September 12, where they will be taking on Oman. They will then take on arch-rivals India on September 14 and the UAE on September 17.

With the squad announcement, one of the biggest developments, the likes of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have not been included in the squad. The PCB seems to have stuck to its strategy of backing youngsters.

Interestingly, before the Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan will be



taking on the UAE and Afghanistan in a tri-series. The same will be a part of the tri-series and the Asia Cup, and the Men in Green will hope to put in their best performance ahead of the marquee tournament. 

In the Asia Cup 2023 which was played in the ODI format, Pakistan lost two of their three super four matches and failed to make it to the summit clash. Additionally, they finished as the runner-up to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022 which was played in the T20I format.
