New Zealand's stand-in captain Tom Latham led from the front and tonked an unbeaten hundred to help his team chase down a 272-run target against Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI at Christchurch. Latham's 108-ball 110 was loaded with 10 boundaries as the hosts chased down the target with 10 balls and 5 wickets remaining. The win for New Zealand means an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series.

After opting to ball first New Zealand dismissed Liton Das for a duck before a 81-run partnership brewed between captain Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar (32).

Spinner Mitchell Santner gave the Kiwis the breakthrough on the last ball of the 20th over. New Zealand Tom Latham also played his part in the dismissal by stumping the Bangladesh number 3.

Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim partnered for 48 and were going strong but the former was outdone by a brilliant 'footwork' from Jimmy Neesham Neesham.

The all-rounder hit the ball with his legs to run-out the skipper. Tamil Iqbal scored 78 off 108, his highest score against New Zealand.

Later, a 51-run stand between Rahim and Mohammad Mithun followed by another partnership of 63 runs between Mithun and Mahmudullah, helped the Bangla Tigers post 271/6 in their quota of 50 overs. Mithun smashed 73 off just 57 and looked the most confident Bangladesh batsman.

In reply, Martin Guptill (20), Henry Nicholls (13) and Will Young (1) got out inside 11 overs after pacer Mustafizur Rahim and spinner Mahedi Hasan struck early.

However, Devon Conway (72) and Tom Latham (110) joined forces for a solid 113-run stand for the 4th wicket. When the former got run-out in the 34th over, New Zealand still needed 105 runs but a very able Jimmy Neesham rose to the occasion and scored 30 odd runs to take his team very close to the Bangladesh total.
