Mumbai Indians (MI) have put an emphatic end to the swirling rumours about their former captain Rohit Sharma being traded to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Speculation gained traction on social media after KKR recently appointed Abhishek Nayar as their new head coach, replacing Chandrakant Pandit. Nayar shares a close bond with Rohit, having mentored and trained with him during his comeback to international cricket earlier this year. Their camaraderie led fans to wonder if a reunion in KKR colours might be on the
cards.
However, MI’s social media team quickly shut down the chatter with a clever post on X (formerly Twitter). The franchise wrote, “Sun will rise tomorrow again ye toh confirm hai, but at (K)night...mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai!” — hinting that a move to the Knight Riders was “not just difficult, but impossible.”
Rohit Sharma has been the face of the Mumbai Indians since joining the franchise in 2011. Under his captaincy, MI became one of the most successful teams in IPL history, clinching five titles and establishing a winning culture built around calm leadership and consistency.
