Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan on Wednesday confirmed that MS Dhoni will be seeking medical advice to treat his nagging knee injury, adding that the skipper will only take a call on whether he needs surgery or not.

MS Dhoni managed a knee injury throughout the IPL 2023 campaign. Dhoni was seen sporting a knee brace on the eve of the Chennai Super KIngs' opener against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, sparking concerns about his fitness. However, Dhoni did not miss a single game for CSK, managing the injury scare well in their victorious season.

MS Dhoni often spoke about his knee injury, but the CSK skipper continued to keep wickets and bat lower down the order for the Super Kings. Dhoni conceded that he was happy doing the finisher's role lower down the order and that he was training accordingly throughout the IPL 2023 season.

Dhoni managed only 104 runs in 16 matches but he struck at close to 180, hitting 10 sixes throughout the campaign.

"Yes, it is true that Dhoni will be taking medical advice for his left knee injury and accordingly decide. If surgery is advised, it can only be ascertained after reports come out, it will be completely his call," Kasi Viswanathan told PTI news agency.

MS Dhoni had highlighted that it has

taken a toll on him to prepare for an IPL season, especially after having retired from international cricket 3 years ago. Dhoni said that he needed 4 months to get ready for IPL 2023 season.

Dhoni looked fitter than he was in the last few seasons with beefed-up muscles and handled the knee issue well throughout the 16 matches.

The 41-year-old confirmed after the IPL 2023 final that he was not going to retire and would look to play another season in 2024. However, Dhoni conceded that a lot would depend on his body shapes up in the next 8-10 months.

"f you see, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say 'Thank you very much', but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least 1 more season of IPL.

"A lot depends on the body, I have 6-7 months to decide. It will be more like a gift from my side, it's not easy for me but that's a gift. The way they've shown their love and affection, I think that's something I need to do for them," Dhoni said.

CSK defeated Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets, successfully chasing a revised target of 171 in the rain-marred IPL 2023 final.
